Machining center G800 - for a diverse mix!
The G800 is a new machine concept, developed by GROB to offer customers in the system machine business the ideal pallet size for accommodating large components.
A pallet size of 800 x 800 mm is perfectly suitable for machining engine components for trucks, commercial and construction vehicles and tractors.
The GROB machining center uses the so-called traveling column design. Its fast-motion speed achieves 60 m/min. In the 4-axis version, the milling spindle is positioned horizontally. A 5-axis version with an HV head was developed as an option. The HV head uses a sleeve to bear the motor spindle with 575 Nm at 40% ED. The sleeve allows a linear feed movement of 300 mm within the HV head; this allows drilling and tapping operations to be realized more dynamically with less stress on the machine.
Furthermore, the extended sleeve generates a slim interference contour of the spindle nose, thus permitting machining with short tools as well as accessing difficult to reach places on the work piece. The B-axis rotary table is driven by a torque motor and can be hydraulically clamped using 10,000 Nm during machining. The effective swing circle diameter of the rotary table is 1600 mm.
In addition to direct loading of work pieces into the machine’s operating area, a variant was also developed using an automatic pallet changer. The steep incline of the swarf drop makes the G800 highly suitable also for dry machining and machining with minimum quantity lubrication. The drives of the linear feed axes employ ball screw technology. The stability and rigidity of the machining center rely on FE-optimized base assemblies, and amply dimensioned roller rail guides.
