Caron Engineering develops CNC machine optimization solutions to improve performance, productivity, and profitability for the metal-cutting manufacturing industry. Caron Engineering products combine sensor hardware, high speed data processing, and intuitive software systems to optimize machining processes.
Caron Engineering will be featuring their newly redesigned version of their flagship Tool Monitoring Adaptive Control System (TMAC). TMAC monitors true motor power to determine if tools are worn or broken, and directly interfaces with the CNC control to make real-time corrective adjustments. TMAC will automatically expire a tool if excessive wear is detected (and can signal a redundant tool) or immediately stop the machine and retract the tool in the event of breakage. TMAC makes real-time feedrate adjustments through variations in material using adaptive control to optimize tool life, reduce cycle time, and boost production. This direct interface with the CNC control allows machines to run unattended.
The new TMAC version 3.0 offers an intuitive user-interface designed to handle the complexity of the software while providing simplicity for the user. The web-based UI has completely customizable user views with a dynamic display that can be accessed from any device, (including smart phones), and allows monitoring multiple processes and machine channels simultaneously. All events and historical data are automatically saved and can be exported for analysis.
In addition to power, TMAC can monitor tool wear and breakage using vibration sensors, and even monitor the slightest cutting operations (micro-tools) using embedded strain gauge sensors. Additionally, TMAC can monitor coolant flow, coolant pressure, and spindle speed.
OPEN MIND Technologies, GROB's exclusive CAM partner for 5-AXiS LiVE!, will feature the latest release of its advanced hyperMILL® CAM software (version 2019.2), offering significant advantages when 5-Axis machining. Two parts programmed with hyperMILL will be showcased atthe event, including a complex aerospace component and mold. The hyperMILL MAXX Machining Finishing Module, a performance package of the hyperMILL CAM software suite, will be highlighted. hyperMILL MAXX Machining enables the use of conical barrel cutter technology to reduce cycle times over 90% and is ideal for planar, ruled and curved surfaces often found in complex 5-Axis components.
A new 5-axis Prismatic fillet finishing function in hyperMILL MAXX Machining facilitates the geometry and automatic inclination of barrel cutters to be applied similar to high feed cutters, using a plunging and pulling movement at extremely high feed rates. hyperMILL MAXX Machining offers three powerful modules for finishing, roughing and drilling. OPEN MIND is the only CAM vendor offering "factory-approved" postprocessors. The postprocessors are embedded/ integrated in hyperMILL for efficiency and ease-of-use. The hyperMILL CAM solution calculates toolpaths independently of machine and controller, and users can generate NC programs from this neutral data that are optimized to meet application requirements and matched with the machines and controllers to be used.
Siemens offers today's manufacturers the most advanced CNC technology on the market. From controls that run basic milling and turning machines to multi-axis and hybrid machines with full automation and robotics, Siemens CNCs handle the full range of motion control requirements. We support the industry with unmatched training, service and a commitment to educating the next generation of machinists through our L.E.A.P. program with technical schools and universities. The new Siemens Technical Application Center, located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, is available to facilitate training and the refocusing of manufacturing strategies.
Siemens understands the machine tool industry’s need to move from 3-axis to 5-axis and how this change is increasingly becoming a means to business survival. High-speed, 5-axis machining can produce complex part geometries quickly, accurately and in a single setup. Rather than producing parts on 3-axis machining centers using several setups, implementing 5-axis multi-sided machining strategies can dramatically reduce cycle time and increase part accuracy, all while using a single setup. As a global leader in multi-axis motion control, SINUMERIK CNC offers a clear advantage to any job shop looking to increase productivity and quality.
As a partner for the first ever 5-AXiS LiVE event, we are excited to showcase our new LC50-DIGILOG laser measuring system. This ground-breaking system has been completely redeveloped to revolutionize and future-proof the speed, precision and in-process reliability of tool measurement in machine tools. One of the highlights of the system is the newly implemented DIGILOG technology. Whereas the proven digital/switching laser measuring systems by BLUM using NT technology only generate a small number of signals for recording measurements, the new LC50-DIGILOG generates many thousands of measurement values per second. Thanks to the new technology precision, speed and in-process reliability have been enhanced to a never before imagined level.
Blum-Novotest, Inc., is a fully owned subsidiary of Blum-Novotest GmbH, a leader in cutting edge measurement and testing technology, with 50 years of experience as supplier for the worldwide machine tool, automotive and aircraft industries. As the North American subsidiary, we are responsible for all sales and service activities in USA, Canada and Mexico. We provide tactile and optical measuring systems for automated tool setting and spindle probe systems for workpiece setting and inspection applications in machine tools. We integrate such devices into your machines for increased automation of job setup and monitoring of the manufacturing process.
Seco Tools is a leading global provider of metal cutting solutions for milling, stationary tools, holemaking and tooling systems. For more than 80 years, the company has provided the technologies, processes and support that manufacturers depend on for maximum productivity and profitability. During 5-AXiS LiVE!, join us to learn more about machining complex 2D and 3D parts such as mold cavities, gates, heat-sinks and even die pockets. Hard milling complex 3D molding surfaces from tool steels that are up to 65+ HRc can be done effectively in today’s high paced Mold Making industry. Seco Tools recently helped a local mold shop high speed hard mill the pictured complex 3D mold core out of A2 which had been heat treated to 60-62 HRc.
With the increase in cutting tool technology such as patented Silicon based coatings, engineered flute shapes and advance pre and post edge treatments, hard milling is quickly becoming the go to method for progressive forward-thinking Mold shops looking to reduce lead times.

GROB's one-of-a-kind design of HMC + swivel-rotary table is ideal for companies pursuing jobs in aerospace, die/mold, medical, and automotive sectors. The unique retractable spindle virtually eliminates the chance for collisions while maximizing the usable work area. This means GROB owners can usually buy one size smaller to reduce their investment, or have room to grow with new and larger part families. With these capabilities and GROB's accuracy and reliability, you can shorten production times, take on new jobs, and increase revenue.
Elevate your machining capabilities with these features:
- Better access to more part features, including negative angles
- Easy and complete chip removal when table is inverted
- Your choice of several popular CNC control platforms
- Many options included as standard
- USA manufacturing, service & support (Bluffton, OH)
"We had never seen a machine configured like this, and we were excited to see how the swiveling and rotating capability were combined in the table."
“We like the unique configuration of the spindle versus the worktable as the spindle comes in horizontally ... You can machine unique cutting geometries and hard to reach areas. The configuration is also good for chip control.”
"You’re dealing with factory direct parts [Grob manufactures machine tools at its Bluffton, OH, plant] and technicians that are very knowledgeable and that was a big appeal for us.”
