CAMplete TruePath is an easy-to use application that takes you from your CAM System to your 5-Axis machine efficiently and safely. Caron Engineering develops CNC machine optimization solutions to improve performance, productivity, and profitability for the metal-cutting manufacturing industry. Caron Engineering products combine sensor hardware, high speed data processing, and intuitive software systems to optimize machining processes.
Caron Engineering will be featuring their newly redesigned version of their flagship Tool Monitoring Adaptive Control System (TMAC). TMAC monitors true motor power to determine if tools are worn or broken, and directly interfaces with the CNC control to make real-time corrective adjustments. TMAC will automatically expire a tool if excessive wear is detected (and can signal a redundant tool) or immediately stop the machine and retract the tool in the event of breakage. TMAC makes real-time feedrate adjustments through variations in material using adaptive control to optimize tool life, reduce cycle time, and boost production. This direct interface with the CNC control allows machines to run unattended.
The new TMAC version 3.0 offers an intuitive user-interface designed to handle the complexity of the software while providing simplicity for the user. The web-based UI has completely customizable user views with a dynamic display that can be accessed from any device, (including smart phones), and allows monitoring multiple processes and machine channels simultaneously. All events and historical data are automatically saved and can be exported for analysis.
In addition to power, TMAC can monitor tool wear and breakage using vibration sensors, and even monitor the slightest cutting operations (micro-tools) using embedded strain gauge sensors. Additionally, TMAC can monitor coolant flow, coolant pressure, and spindle speed.

Two parts programmed with hyperMILL will be showcased atthe event, including a complex aerospace component and mold. The hyperMILL MAXX Machining Finishing Module, a performance package of the hyperMILL CAM software suite, will be highlighted. hyperMILL MAXX Machining enables the use of conical barrel cutter technology to reduce cycle times over 90% and is ideal for planar, ruled and curved surfaces often found in complex 5-Axis components.
A new 5-axis Prismatic fillet finishing function in hyperMILL MAXX Machining facilitates the geometry and automatic inclination of barrel cutters to be applied similar to high feed cutters, using a plunging and pulling movement at extremely high feed rates. hyperMILL MAXX Machining offers three powerful modules for finishing, roughing and drilling. OPEN MIND is the only CAM vendor offering "factory-approved" postprocessors. The postprocessors are embedded/ integrated in hyperMILL for efficiency and ease-of-use. The hyperMILL CAM solution calculates toolpaths independently of machine and controller, and users can generate NC programs from this neutral data that are optimized to meet application requirements and matched with the machines and controllers to be used.

Greg leads AMT’s effort to build a better educated and trained workforce (Smartforce) for the advanced manufacturing industry that is vital to the economic health and national security of the United States. Greg forges relationships with like-minded industry professionals, education leaders, Federal, State and Local policy-makers and NGOs to support programs including STEM and STEAM challenges, career & technical education, advanced manufacturing technology degree and workforce development programs at community colleges.
In his role at AMT, Greg is a member of the Executive Committee of the NIMS Board of Directors. NIMS accredits schools, develops industry-supported standards and provides individuals with related industry credentials and supports Apprenticeship programs through partnerships with the Department of Labor. Greg’s team at AMT produces the Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show, (held every two years in Chicago, Ill.) and owned by AMT. The student summit provides hands-on activities to encourage young people to seek a post-secondary education in STEM and a career in manufacturing. IMTS 2018 marked the eleventh edition of the student summit and more than 24,000 attendees, including students, teachers, administrators, parents and scouts participated.
In 2001, Greg was part of the executive team that launched ToolingU, the industry’s leading e-Learning program that has been adopted by thousands of schools as well as manufacturing companies. Greg’s team also manages AMT’s Certified Manufacturing Technology Sales Engineer (CMTSE) program, and other education services including MTUniversity.org which delivers e-Learning classes to AMT members in partnership with ToolingU. Greg is the staff liaison to AMT’s Research and Education Affiliate members and he works on behalf of all AMT members and the industry to assure the availability of a competent, educated workforce.
The aluminum bracket sample part shows a bearing bracket similar to structural components for the aerospace industry. This particular example is made from a 6” square, 5” tall 7075 aluminum block held with a low profile vice made by SCHUNK. This part contains acute internal corners and tall side walls and tight tolerances for holes to name a few. With a combination of MAPAL tools from standards to specials, we are able to maximize machining, boring and deburring operations efficiently with fewer tools to complete the part. Standard tooling specifically designed for high volume material removal for aerospace structural parts allow us to remove material efficiently with minimal load on the spindle or the part. This gives us access to all sides of the part so the part can be made in fewer operations. The kinematics and construction of the machine gives us the clearance needed to maximize the use of the work area even with shorter tools and lower profile work holding solution.
The mold demo shows the machine’s unique axis configuration that makes it rigid enough to rough the part as well as have the precision to finish the mold segment all in one operation. With this configuration we are able to machine all 5 sides as well as use long gun drills (8mm 25xD) and automatically tool change them with no work piece collision. The machine configuration allows us to use shorter standard tools from SECO to reach the bottom of the cavities and also to machine the deep and narrow slots.
