At the EMO 2019, GROB presents the new 5-axis machining centers G350a and G550a to the general public for the first time. These are two flexible all-rounders from the universal machine sector with a short payback period and the best machining quality.

Mindelheim/Hanover. The characteristic features of the G350a and G550a machine variants do not differ significantly from those of the classic G series. Thanks to their renowned 5-axis technology, they also promise the best machining quality for individual and series production. The basic model G350a of the access series represents a smart, cost-conscious entry into GROB technology, offers almost unlimited application possibilities in milling applications, and remains flexibly adaptable to suit every requirement. The universal machining center G550a meets the broadest range of part requirements, offering an exclusive entry to GROB milling technology. High reliability and the option of modular expansion with automation packages make the basic model G550a the perfect solution for an efficient and cost-conscious production.

 

Short payback period with greatly reduced costs

 

With the access machines, GROB rounds out the product range of its G-modules and offers highly attractive entry-level versions into the world of GROB's 5-axis machining centers. The special feature and highlight of the new access series is its short payback period, which once again enables GROB to set new standards in machine tool construction. High machine availability is combined with significantly reduced costs. These universal machining centers, then, offer the ideal solution for automobile suppliers and customers from the general mechanical engineering, contract manufacture, tool construction, and also the pump and fitting sectors.

 

MORE as standard...

 

Even in their standard version, the new basic models G350a and G550a are perfectly equipped: A rigid spindle axis optimally positioned close to the operating point guarantees maximum accuracy and precision. The combination with the unique overhead machining allows an excellent chip fall and reduces the heat load in the component. The linear guidance system of the reference axis can be optionally equipped with a temperature-controlled cooling function. Two makes of controls are available: the SIEMENS and HEIDENHAIN* control systems. A laminated glass safety screen, already included in the basic version, provides a perfect view of the machining process. A wide-opening work area door ensures safe access and ergonomic working, with maximum machine safety.

 

Flexibly adjustable to suit every requirement

 

To take account of the individual challenges and requirements of the various applications down to the last detail, GROB offers various option packages for its new basic models. In addition to the basic machine, which can be equipped with a decentralized work area extraction system and automatic work area door, customers can also select from various options for the tool magazine, cutting fluid systems, software solutions and other accessories.

The automation solutions offered for the G350a and G550a are also impressive: the GROB PSS-R rotary pallet storage system, for example, offers enough space for up to 15 pallet storage positions with a small footprint. The option of a work piece or pallet clamping system provides more flexibility. An optional pallet changer creates the prerequisites for easy retooling during machining time. In combination with the customized option packages, the automation solutions ensure optimal part handling and a perfect production process.
