About us

Morris Group, Inc.

Morris Group, Inc., the largest machine tool distribution network in North America, is a third generation, family owned and operated business that serves manufacturers of precision machined parts in the United States. It is distinguished by its reputation for providing excellent customer service, longtime partnerships with leading builders, and financial strength.

Morris Group’s history dates to 1941 with the founding of The Robert E. Morris Company which continues to thrive today as one of Morris Group’s fourteen independently managed operating divisions.

GROB Systems

GROB's one-of-a-kind design of HMC + swivel-rotary table is ideal for companies pursuing jobs in aerospace, die/mold, medical, and automotive sectors. The unique retractable spindle virtually eliminates the change for collisions during tool change, while maximizing the usable work area. This means GROB owners can usually buy one size smaller to reduce their investment, or have room to grow with new and larger part families. With these capabilities and GROB's accuracy and reliability, you can shorten production times, take on new jobs, and increase revenue.

Elevate your machining capabilities with these features:

  • Better access to more part features, including negative angles
  • Easy and complete chip removal when table is inverted
  • Your choice of several popular CNC control platforms
  • Many options included as standard
  • USA manufacturing, service & support (Bluffton, OH)

What our customers say

"We had never seen a machine configured like this, and we were excited to see how the swiveling and rotating capabilities were combined in the table."

“We like the unique configuration of the spindle versus the worktable as the spindle comes in horizontally ... You can machine unique cutting geometries and hard to reach areas. The configuration is also good for chip control.”

"You’re dealing with factory direct parts [GROB manufactures machine tools at its Bluffton, OH, plant] and technicians that are very knowledgeable and that was a big appeal for us.”

“If we have a problem that we’re trouble shooting, I can call GROB. They can log right into our machine, which is something that we’ve never had on any machine before, and they’ll trouble shoot for us. It really is a partnership with GROB.”

OPEN MIND Technologies will provide insight into CAM programming strategies during the GROB Technology Application Events. The technical presentation will focus on a sample of innovations that make direct impact on your productivity – assured tool paths that reduced the need for test cuts, higher production rates and improved part quality. The discussion will include hyperMILL MAXX Machining performance techniques for high performance roughing as well as finishing techniques that can provide up to 90% time savings by applying innovative tool paths that utilize conical barrel cutters.

Other topics include a series of techniques to improve part quality. Smooth overlap techniques bypass some of the physics encountered in machining to obtain improved blends at the junction of adjoining machining areas or machining jobs, even when programmed with different cutters. High-precision mode calculations produce fine surface finish using advanced mathematical techniques, reducing or eliminating faceted surfaces often found during machining.

New rest machining techniques use automated and highly productive combination of parallel and z-level rest machining tool paths into an optimal process. These rest machining tool paths can also be combined with the smooth overlap functions to assure blending with adjacent surface walls.

In addition to postprocessing and simulating computed tool paths, we will be introducing topics related to hyperMILL’s Virtual Machine. Virtual Machine’s revolutionary functions were created to optimize and idealize machine tool movement when delivering programmed toolpath safely to the targeted machine.

GROB and OPEN MIND have collaborated on the machining demos that will be on display during the Technology Application Event.
