For the first time, GROB-WERKE will present itself on its own stand at Moulding Expo in Stuttgart – an international trade fair for tool, model and mold making. On Stand 5B32 in Hall 5, the company will demonstrate to the trade visitors a broad range of potential applications of a 5-axis universal machining center – the G350 Generation 2 for tool and model making.

Mindelheim/Stuttgart. On 100 m² of space, GROB-WERKE is presenting its trade fair highlight, a G350 - Generation 2, the latest generation of GROB 5-axis universal machining centers. In the demo of a part made from steel (1.7139 16 MnCrS5), the trade fair visitors can see for themselves the various features of workpiece machining. Including machining strategies such as roughing with face milling cutter and indexable drill, which demonstrates the stability of the machine, or roughing with high feed-rate millers and trochoidal milling with end mill cutters, which pay testimony to the machine's dynamics.
Deep hole drilling visualizes the use of long tool lengths. Additionally, the machine's new tool geometry significantly reduces machining times. The exhibition machine is equipped with a TNC 640 HEIDENHAIN control and a motorized spindle that achieves 16,000 rpm, HSK-A63, 206 Nm and 32 kw (40 % duty cycle).

Broad range of technical innovations
The second generation of the GROB G350 5-axis universal machining centers impresses through significantly improved dynamics, reduced idle and chip-to-chip times, as well as a new machine design and increased tool magazine capacity. Thanks to the intelligent new arrangement of the integrated tool magazine, the machine width has been effectively reduced to 2,000 mm enabling an even more compact machine configuration. A newly-developed tool change arm improves the chip-to-chip time by up to 30 percent compared to the predecessor version. The G350 – Generation 1 had over 40 tool pockets. Thanks to further development, the tool capacity of the G350 – Generation 2 has been increased to 60 in the single-disk magazine and to 117 pockets in the newly-developed double disk magazine. This new double disk magazine has effectively increased the maximum usable tool length by 33 percent to 550 mm.

G350 - Generation 2 - Optimal for tool and mold making
The G350 5-axis universal machining center – Generation 2 offers almost limitless possibilities for the use in tool and mold industries. Three linear and two rotary axes permit 5-sided machining, as well as 5-axis simultaneous interpolation. With a swivel range of 225° in the A-axis and 360° in the B-axis, the machine offers the greatest possible degrees of freedom and high flexibility. Due to the special axis concept, the full tool length can also be employed in any axis position - even with maximum workpiece size. The "tunnel" concept allows the work area to be optimally used, since the motorized spindle and tool can fully retract into the spindle shaft.

Another machine feature lends itself to tool and mold making: GSC (GROB Swivel Axis Calibration), the package for maximizing machine accuracy developed specifically for this sector. With the further-developed basic machine, the cooling system carried by the machine bed and the additional cooling channels in the guide rails of the linear axes, this machine offers the ideal conditions for use in tool and mold making. Thanks to highest accuracy, best surface quality results, a maximum machining volume, the longest possible Z-travel distance and an optimized view into and access to the work area, the G350 – Generation 2 is equipped for your daily machining requirements.
